The S1 science course is made up of four different topics. Every pupil starts with the Introductory Unit which last approximately four weeks. The pupils will then complete three other units (in no set order) on the following topics: 1. Heat Energy (Physics) 2. Cells and Body Systems (Biology) 3. Model of Matter (Chemistry) Regular homework will be given for all four units including a Scottish Scientists Project in the Introductory Unit and there will be a formal assessment at the end of each topic. Differentiated materials and assessments are also available. Each of the three main units of work last approximately 10 weeks so the four assessments will take place on around September, November, February and May. All completed assessments scores will be provided to parents through Parental Report Cards and at Parents’ Evenings. At the end of S1 all classes will participate in a Scientists at worktopic which develops lifelong skills and promotes employment opportunities with the science subjects. Below you will find some PowerPoint slides, homework tasks and revision materials on all the work that will be covered in S1.
S2 Science The S2 science course is made up of six different topics. The first three topics, which will be completed in no set order, last for approximately eight weeks and the pupils will have a formal assessment at the end of each unit of work (approximate assessment dates are October, December and February). The three topics are as follows: 1.Light and Forces(Physics) 2.Periodic Table(Chemistry) 3.Biotechnology(Biology) There will then be a further three topics (each lasting 4 weeks) again in no set order. These three topics will not have a formal assessment. The three topics covered are as follows: 1.Electricity(Physics) 2.Biodiversity(Biology) 3.Chemical reactions (Chemistry) Below you will find some PowerPoint slides, homework tasks and revision materials on all the work that will be covered in S2.
