SQA is becoming Qualifications Scotland, Scotland’s new national awarding body.
The qualifications our young people are  working towards and those they have  already achieved remain trusted and recognised, delivered by a new organisation created to better support learners and partners.
All SQA qualifications, past and present, remain valid and valued.
Qualifications Scotland continues to uphold the same high standards and quality processes that give learners, educators and employers confidence in these qualifications.

Exam Results Day

4th August is the official Qualifications Scotland Results Day for our students.
We wish all our young people who sat exams every success. We hope that students are rewarded for all their hard work.
 What you need to know about your results
  • Results day is Tuesday 4 August 2026.
  • You will receive your certificate by post.
  • If you have signed up to My Qualifications Scotland (used to be MySQA), you will also receive your results by email or text, or both .
  • There is a free appeals service that you can access yourself or through  Ms McMillan

On results day

Please find some information below you may find useful.  We have also posted lots of information on Teams and the school FB page  If a learner does not receive their exam results or certificate, they should contact the school and ask for Ms McMillan.  (Please have your SCN number available.)
​If a learner does not achieve the results they had hoped for, please read the information below.   If you wish to Appeal, you may speak to Ms McMillan for further advice. 
Members of school staff will be available on Tuesday, 4th August between 10am and 1pm to discuss any concerns that our students may have about their SQA results. Please contact the school office on 0300 300 1440 to talk to a staff member.
Staff will be available to speak to learners about EXAM RESULTS only.   Pupils can discuss changes to subjects when they return to school on Tuesday 18th August.
 
Your results envelope will contain a letter from the Chief Examining Officer and your results certificate, which shows:

The Candidate Advice Line is available from 8am on results day 0345 279 1000
You can call the Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Results Helpline on 0808 100 8000 to speak to an adviser about your options and next steps. The helpline opens at 8 am on Tuesday 4 August and closes at 5 pm on Friday 7 August. If you’d prefer to speak to someone in person, you can meet with an SDS careers adviser in your area. To speak to an SDS adviser before results day, or after their Results Helpline closes, you can call them on 0800 917 8000. This line is open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm. There’s also lots of helpful information and advice on results at myworldofwork.co.uk.

TOP QUESTIONS ON RESULTS DAY
Who do I contact if I have any questions about my results?Talk to Ms McMillan if you have questions about your results. If you’re concerned about your grades, you can use the free appeals service.
Why haven't I got my results by text or email?Qualifications Scotland  send texts and emails from 8 am on results day. Check your spam or junk folder if you haven’t received your email.
If you’re abroad you’ll only get your results by text if your phone is set up to work outside the UK and you have enough credit.
I have results missing from my certificate. What should I do?Contact the school office or Ms McMillan. They'll look into this for you.

How exams and coursework are marked 
Around 7,700 experienced teachers and lecturers mark the exams and coursework. They use their knowledge of course requirements and national standards to work out your final mark.
Qualifications Scotland carry out many checks across all courses and levels to make sure the marking is accurate and consistent. This is known as quality assurance.
Can I see my marked exam papers?Sorry, no. Qualifications Scotland don't offer this service.
How many marks do I need for each grade?The minimum marks needed for each grade (A to D) aren't fixed.
If an exam was easier or harder than planned, the exam board adjust the minimum marks needed to make sure grades are fair from year to year. We call this ‘setting grade boundaries’.
How we mark exams and decide grades.
APPEALS
You can appeal if you're concerned about a National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher grade and you think there may have been a mistake in the marking.
If you appeal, a senior marker will review your answers in your marked assessments. This includes question papers and assignments. They’ll check that:
  • the marks have been given in line with the marking standards
  • all parts of your assessments have been marked
  • the marks have been added up correctly
  • the correct result has been entered on our system.
After the review, your grade could stay the same, go up or go down.
Things to think about before you appeal
  • Is your grade in line with your estimated grade?
  • Have you talked to your teacher about your grade?
  • Is your grade unexpected?
You won't be able to appeal your grade if:Can I ask for a priority appeal?Qualifications Scotland can prioritise your appeal if you have a conditional offer for university, college or training this year, or a job offer that depends on your grade.
Priority appeals must be approved by your school, college or training provider. Tell Ms McMillan if you have a conditional offer that depends on your grade. You’ll need to provide the name of the educational institution or employer for the appeal to be treated as a priority.
How do I appeal?Appeal through the appeals service (opens on results day) or ask Ms McMillan to submit an appeal for you.
You’ll need to provide your:
  • name
  • email address
  • date of birth
  • Scottish Candidate Number (shown on your certificate).
You need to register for the learner direct appeals service separately from My Qualifications Scotland. If you prefer, you can ask your parent or carer to do this for you.
Parents and carersIf you are appealing for your child, please remember:
  • you must get their permission first
  • you'll need to use a different email address for each child
  • you should make sure your child understands their grades can stay the same, go up or go down
  • your child cannot appeal separately if you do it for them.

The S4 music practical prelims will take place from Wed 21st - Fri 23rd Jan. Pupils will be required to arrive at the music department 15 minutes prior to their exam to warm up and get prepared.  They will return to class once completed.   ( spreadsheet sent via email)

e-sgiol website
Registration for e-Sgoil's 2026 Senior Phase Easter Study Support is now open. 
 
Registration for e-Sgoil's 2026 Easter Study Support programme is now open.  This Scottish Government funded provision is focussed on delivering equitable access to all Senior Phase learners and is completely free. Study Support comprises live, interactive webinars and are delivered online by experienced, GTCS registered teachers. Almost 60 different webinar subjects are on offer during the week of 6th-10th April, covering the most popular curricular areas as well as an extensive range of other subjects.   
4287 learners from 321 secondary schools across Scotland signed up for the Easter programme last year. Almost all learners surveyed rated the overall quality of their experience as ‘excellent’, with 98% claiming that the webinars had helped to increase their confidence and reduce their anxiety ahead of final exams.

Please check the timetable to view the dates/times of the subject webinars that you would like to join.  All sessions are delivered by teachers and last year learners rated the quality of the support as "Excellent" so we would encourage pupils to make use of this offer.
   
All webinars are delivered via Microsoft Teams within the Glow Schools intranet. The learner registration form is also held within Glow and, as such, it is important that learners are aware of their Glow credentials before signing up.   
   As well as our Easter Study Support programme e-Sgoil continue to deliver weekly Evening Study Support webinars during term time. Please note that if learners are already registered for the evening programme they will need to register separately for the Easter programme.

Candidate Advice Line

​The SQA Candidate Advice Line will run from the morning of 6th August providing general information to candidates and answering any questions they have about the layout of their Scottish Qualifications Certificate. The Candidate Advice Line operators will have no access to candidates’ results. Candidates enquiring about their results will be advised to contact their school or college.
   
The Candidate Advice Line will be open from 8am until 6pm on 4th August and from 9am until 5pm on 5, 6 and 7 August.      Candidates should also seek general information from www.sqa.org.uk

6Skills Development Scotland will run an Exam Results Helpline from 4-7 August, offering candidates impartial careers advice and information.

Remember, there are study skills classes which will provide you with skills to aid you with your revision.  Please remember. that even though you may not have applied for an Easter Revision class, please do not sit at home and panic if you find yourself struggling with your revision.  Come in to school during scheduled times- we will not turn you away!

Useful revision resources The following resources may be helpful to candidates preparing for exams.
Past papers Past papers are question papers that have been used for exams in previous years. They also come with marking instructions. You can access past papers by using our past paper service. 
Specimen Question Papers Specimen Question Papers were produced during the design and development of the National Qualifications to show what the exams would look like. They include marking instructions and can also be used for revision purposes. Specimen Question Papers are available from the relevant subject pages where they can be downloaded from the 'Assessment support' section.
Exemplar Question Papers Exemplar Question Papers are made up of older past paper questions which have been updated for the current National Courses. They also include marking instructions. Exemplar Question Papers are available for Higher and Advanced Higher and can be downloaded from the 'Assessment support' section of the relevant subject pages.
Hodder Education model papers Hodder Education has produced a range of revision materials aimed at those studying for National Qualifications. This includes model question papers.
BBC Bitesize website The BBC Bitesize website includes revision materials and quizzes for the National Qualifications.

These Revision in a Nutshell National 5 subject guides supplement learning and revision in class. They are organised alphabetically, by subject, covering 20 subjects which have exams and for which the SQA has provided relevant past paper questions. Please check with your teacher to ensure that the guides are relevant to you.  The SQA Specimen Paper and the marking instructions are the most important documents to look at – the BBC Bitesize guides are also really helpful and provide different revision materials.  See our Pointers for Parents and Pupils for more information.  Feedback on these is very welcome.   Good luck!
