What is Higher Applications of Maths? Higher Applications of Maths is a practical mathematics course that develops the skills needed to use maths confidently in real-life situations. It focuses on problem-solving, decision-making, and interpreting information in contexts such as finance, statistics, and data analysis. The course prepares pupils for further study, employment, and everyday situations where mathematical understanding is important. The course is split into three main areas:
Throughout the course, pupils will: · Analyse and interpret financial and statistical information · Select and use appropriate mathematical techniques · Interpret data from graphs, charts, and tables · Communicate ideas clearly using maths · Make informed decisions using numerical evidence. What topics are included?
The course is assessed by an SQA Exam & a Project. There is 1 exam paper- Calculator, worth 65 marks. The paper is sat beside the computer, as pupils will use electronic files and spreadsheet and statistical software. There is a Project, worth 30 marks. The project takes 8 hours and must be submitted before the QS exam. |
